The field of the investigation will be focused on leveraged buyouts that constitute the UK private equity market and, in particularly, on the changes in corporate governance issues of target companies caused by LBO. For the purposes of the dissertation, the analysis will be structured in a way that allows to look at LBOs from the standpoint of corporate governance in theory and practice, and to find a link to the position presented in the financial literature with the practical evidence.

The objectives of the research can be presented as follows:

1. To understand LBO mechanism and its specifics as an acquisition tool. Review of the actual LBOs that took place on the UK market.
2. To conduct a general review on LBO’s effect on corporate governance practices
3. To analyze several (4) LBOs that occurred in the UK in terms of pre- and post-acquisition changes in corporate governance.
4. In the light of the objective (3), to come up with a framework of corporate governance analysis in the context of leveraged buyouts.
5. To derive a conclusion whether the existing literature and practical results can be matched.
6. To test different theories and make a cross analysis of the outcomes of case study analysis.
7. To come up with the conclusions and  develop a path for future research.
